Herder and Herder, 1966. Not Stated. . Hardcover. Good/Good. California First Archbishop J.S. Alemany John B. McGloin S.J. Herder and Herder, 1966, unstated ed., 412 pages. Hardback in good condition with good dust jacket Text clean and unmarked, binding tight, some slight tanning of pages due to age, also hint of musty smell. Cover is clean and price clipped some rubs otherwise clean. This is the story of Joseph Alemany the First Archbishop of California. He arrived in California in 1850 after several years of missionary work in Kentucky and Tennessee. At the time of his arrival he found himself not only responsible for California but for Nevada and Utah as well. Stubborn and hard when need be, yet humble and never unfair he laid the foundations of the Catholic Church during his 30 year rein. Contains a lot of great San Francisco early history.

Description:
Herder and Herder, 1966. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Signed. SIGNED, without inscription, by Father John B. McGloin on the title page. The volume is edge rubbed, has a newspaper clipping between the front pastedown and endpaper causing off-setting to both, and has four sets of pages with California flora inserted between, one of which has left imprints on the other leaf. The unclipped dust jacket, sleeved in mylar, is edge rubbed with a few chips and short closed tears, some with associated creasing. We left the inserted foliage undisturbed, because, well, it lends a flowery touch to the text.
