He arrived in California in 1850 after several years of missionary work in Kentucky and Tennessee. At the time of his arrival he found himself not only responsible for California but for Nevada and Utah as well. Stubborn and hard when need be, yet humble and never unfair he laid the foundations of the Catholic Church during his 30 year rein. Contains a lot of great San Francisco early history.
