1770. PILLEMENT, Jean. Cahier de Six Baraques Chinoises WITH: Recueil de Tentes Chinoises. Two suites each comprised of 6 etchings, professionally matted. Plate size: ca. 242 x 165 mm. Sheet size: ca. 350 x 257 mm. All preserved in a large folio sized modern maroon cloth box. Paris: Leviez, 1770. First State of these whimsical architectural fantasies by the artist responsible for the popularity of Chinoiserie, Jean Pillement. Pillement (1728-1808) was the most prolific and successful master of rococo fantasy of his time and his designs were adopted by countless leading artistic manufactories. Some marginal slight staining and foxing and small repairs. The plates themselves are clean with fine impressions. Guilmard p.189.
