Baltimore, MD: Sadler-Rowe Co., 1899. Folio. 199, [3] pp. Many leaves printed in red & black with ledger paper samples, text illustrations, diagrams. Black embossed cloth, gilt lettering on front cover (rubbed & worn, wear to corners), still VG- copy, w/ ownership inscription verso of ffep. of Nellie Perkins [McCormick] (1882-1974), w/ two Remington Standard Typewriter blotter advertisements laid-in. Later printing of this practical and important Victorian manual for bookkeeping at the end of the 19th century. Nellie Perkins McCormic became the secretary and records keeper for the St. Helens Lumber Company, a expanding firm built by Hamlin and Charles McCormick in St. Helens, Oregon, which in the early 20th century was processing over 400,000 feet of lumber every 16 hours. This influential family also built many of the buildings in downtown St. Helens, along with the historic family home on 2nd Street above the town.
