New York, New York: A.L. Burt, 1895. First Thus . Hardcover. Fair. One of a series of literary classics adapted for young readers by breaking up words into one syllable for easy pronunciation. Orig. published by Cassell in 1895, this is the A.L. Burt reprint (no additional dates), retaining all of the original illustrations, but none in color. Small hardcover has blue cloth-covered boards with colorful decoration to front cover, in 96 pages, with list of other one-syllable books by this publisher in rear. Condition is Fair: heavy external rubbing & wear, spine missing the top quarter, stitched binding is secure, but softening. All illustrations are present & show only mild tanning around edges. Small tears to some pages. Former owner put a handmade card pocket inside back cover, & a vintage bookplate is affixed to it.
