First Printing, one of 684 copies acquired by New Directions in 1965 and issued with a New Directions sticker over the Random House name on the title page. Octavo (21.5cm); orange paper and black cloth-covered boards, with titles stamped in royal blue on spine and front cover; blue topstain; dustjacket; [vi],335pp. Topstain faded, two tiny bumps to upper board edges, base of spine bumped, with a faint trace of staining from an old-style jacket protector to lower board edges; Very Good+. Dustjacket is price-clipped, gently spine-sunned and lightly edgeworn, with some wear to spine-ends, and a few small tears; Very Good+. Third novel in Williams' Stecher Trilogy about an immigrant family and their lives in America (the first two were White Mule [1937] and In the Money [1940]). WALLACE A37.a.
