Advance Issue of the First Edition, and scarce. Essays and travel sketches, some about South America. Paraguay, Argentina, etc. The Preface begins, "Luckily the war has made eggs too expensive for me to fear the public will pelt me off the stage with them. Still after years of wriring one naturally dreads the cold potato and the orange-peel..." who thinks "like your true Scot..." "Nobody who has read such moving character studies...as his sombre narrative of the passing of James Keir Hardy in Brought Forward...but must respect and admire him for his contribution to English Letters."-H. M. Tomlinson in DNB. NCBEL IV, 1318.
