About This Item
Spine is square and tight, but has some cosmetic creasing. Clean, unmarked interior. Covers have some moderate wear, including bumped corners and areas of light soiling and edge-wear. Design by Herb Johnson. Sontag's second screenplay (or 'filmscript', as the subtitle insists), Brother Carl features a tenderhearted denouement, according to a contemporary review, that 'suggest(s) sentiments worthy of Hollywood in the 1930's and 1940's, but . . . is, paradoxically, perhaps (the author's) greatest source of strength.' Cover designer Charles Skaggs, who was a frequent collaborator of W. A. Dwiggins and spent decades creating jackets for multiple publishing houses, here pairs the lovely flared serif, Albertus Nova, with what the Guardian called the 'emaciated but hypnotically handsome face' of Laurent Terzieff, partially obscured by his expressive cluster of hands. 176 pp. Cinema.
