Viii, 219 pp., color frontis with tissue guard + 37 chromolithographic plates, index, 8vo, original brown, blind-stamped buckram, gilt spine titles. Complete, intact original book with no serious flaws. Early inscriptions and attractive bookplates present. Hinges holding well. Rear illustration section may have been re-stitched. Light wear to covers at extremities but tips not worn through. A solid, Good copy. This work builds on the earlier work of Hewitson and claims to correct some of his errors of classification. Scarce.

London: E. W. Janson. Good+ with no dust jacket. First Edition. Hardcover. Split to gutter between plates X and XI. Occasional foxing, plates generally fairly clean. Small splits to gutters at hinges. 3/4" x 1/4" chip to cloth at head of spine. 3/8" split to cloth in rear joint. Horizontal tear to cloth along tail of spine. Boards clean.; viii, 219 pages + frontis + 37 colour plates. Brown cloth cloth boards with gilt lettering on spine. "To draw an egg correctly is no easy task, as I found to my cost. Not only must all the spots be drawn reversed and in perspective, but (in order to give rotundity to the figure) the egg must be correctly shaded. After spoiling the appearance of my first six or seven plates by carefully indicating the shadows visible upon them, and, instead of a rounded surface, producing a resemblance to a dish, a mushroom, or a plum, it became evident that most of these malformed appearances were the result of shadows cast upon the eggs by…
