In three parts, the first two of which have separate pagination and register; "A Treatise of Effectual Faith" (part 2) has separately dated title page; signing of part 3 begins with 2A./ Prelims and quires 2A to end printed by Jones; the rest by PursloweSTC. OUR COPY: Lacks the preliminary leaves, including the title, and the Dedication signed by the editors, Richard Sibs and John Davenport; also lacks the last section with the table/index. Many leaves are browned and/or damp stained. The author, John Preston (15871628) was an Anglican minister and master of Emmanuel College, Cambridge. ** There are numerous manuscript ownership notations - Including: Joseph Shed,1749; Donald McLauren, Cork, 1782; Michael (Mickel) Graves, a Soldier (Solger) in the 30th Regt of Foot. Very worn and loose in an old full leather binding. The book also has some Lebanon County, PA ownerships, including Rev. J. R. Reitzel (probably also from Lebanon). Michael Graves regiment was the 030th Regt of Foot. American War of Independence In 1781 the regiment embarked for North America where they arrived in Charleston to take part in the southern campaign of the American War of Independence. The regiment then spent nine years on Antigua, Saint Lucia and Dominica. In 1782 all regiments of the line without a royal title were given a county designation and the regiment became the 30th (Cambridgeshire) Regiment of Foot. In 1791 the regiment was called to put down a rebellion by the Maroons. STC (2nd ed.) 20208. W144. Hardcover.
