New York: McGraw-Hill Book Company, 1964. Hardcover. 8vo. Black and brown paper over boards, dust jacket. viii, 376pp. Near fine/good plus. Jacket edgeworn and rubbed, with archivally closed (on verso) edge tears, thus fairly attractive overall. A tight, clean and nice first edition of this anthology whose contributors include Philip Roth, Saul Bellow, Bernard Malamud, Norman Mailer, Karl Shapiro, Delmore Schwartz, Howard Nemerov, Allen Ginsburg and other literary luminaries. Boldly inscribed and signed in red ballpoint on the front flyleaf by noted and prolific American Lutheran religious scholar Martin E. Marty (born 1928): "To Archie Lieberman / Martin E. Marty." (Lieberman, 1926-2008, is a noted Chicago photographer and author of "Farm Boy.").
