Braque wants to get back to work and painting following a heavy surgery

G. Braque "

At the writing of this letter, Braque had just undergone a surgery for a double ulcer in the stomach (Picasso will come to see him every day). First a refugee in the Limousin, then in the Pyrenees, the Braque couple returned to Paris where they spent the entire time of the war in the workshop built by Auguste Perret, rue du Douanier. The painter's last years, which stretched from the near end of the war until his death in 1963, were the most brilliant of his career, according to John Golding.
