About This Item

New York: American Publishers Corp, 1869. Reprint. Hardcover. Very Good. William Harvey. 12mo. Pp. 364. Frontis. engraved hunting scene. Illustrated with Harvey wood engravings. Blue cloth, titles stamped in gilt and decorations in black on the spine, titles and decorations in black and blind on the cover. Binding tight, leaves crisp, cover edges rubbed and corners lightly bumped, leaves minimally age toned, gift inscription in ink on a preliminary leaf. First published in 1853. The Irish-American author and Mexican-American war veteran takes no responsibility for truth in the story but "claims consideration for the truthfulness of the materials out of which it is constructed," consisting of physical rather than moral facts to interest the juvenile intellect. English Engraver Harvey was a student of Thomas Bewick and is best known for his illustrations for Lane's Arabian Nights. An especially bright, well-preserved copy.
