About This Item

Hardcover. Very good. Sixteen uncolored etched plates by Cruikshank extracted from five different works issued between 1826 and 1832 and bound together. 10.5" x 14" (oblong), in a late-19th or early 20th century binding of tan cloth with leather spine and corners, marbled endpapers. Front joint cracked (hinge secure), corners scuffed, one plate with a non-archival tape repair at margin, occasional very minor foxing; very good. A few plates with original tissue guards, the rest with later replacements inserted. Includes the wonderful illustrated title page from Illustrations of Time (but no plates from that book); one plate from Phrenological Propensities, three each from Scraps and Sketches Parts I and II, and four each from Scraps and Sketches Parts III and IV. Other than the Illustrations of Time title page and one plate from Scraps and Sketches II ("London going out of Town - or - The March of Bricks and Mortar"), all plates include multiple illustrations, for a total of 88 (not counting a few tiny vignettes).
