Swinburne's dramatic Tudor poetical play, revolving around the murder of Darnley, and the marriage of Bothwell and Mary Queen of Scots. The third edition.A play in verse by Algernon Charles Swinburne, a dramatic tragedy about the Earl of Bothwell, the husband of Mary Queen of Scots. This play revolves around the drama of his life, with Bothwell being accused of murdering Mary's previous husband, Lord Darnley. Algernon Swinburne was a British poet who didn"t shy away from subjects that were taboo at the time, such as lesbianism, cannibalism, and anti-theism. He began writing poetry during his school-life at Eton, and as an adult became friends with many Pre-Raphaelites, including Dante Rossetti and William Morris.Prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down. One leaf of adverts to the rear, and thirty-two pages to the rear.
