About This Item

London: David & Charles, 1983. Cloth. Fine/Near Fine. 9" by 5.5". Not Stated. A comprehensive guide to Botanical Latin, with explanations of grammar, syntax, and abbreviations, as well as illustrations throughout text. Third Edition. Presented in the price-clipped dust wrapper. Illustrated with forty-one text illustrations of plants, leaves, fruits, and seeds. This book aims to be a working guide to the kind of Latin that is used by botanists for the description and naming of plants. As well as providing grammar, syntax, and vocabulary, this book also sketches the historical development of botanical Latin itself. Contents include 'Grammar' with information on nouns, participles, and other structures, followed by diagnoses and descriptions of algae, fungi, lichenes, bryophyta, and more. The author also includes habitats, colour terms, and Greek words within Botanical Latin. William T. Stearn (1911-2001) was a British botanist. Stearn is particularly known for his work in botanical taxonomy as well as botanical illustration. Collated, complete. In the publisher's original cloth binding, in the price-clipped dust wrapper. Externally, excellent, with no noticeable faults. Dust wrapper is excellent with very light age-toning to fly leaves. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine
