London:: Printed for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme, & Brown,, 1814.. First edition.. Large folio. 2 vols.. Two volumes. Rare large paper copies edges uncut. Original marbled papered boards light rubbing spine rebacked with title to spines. Plates are offset to facing text pages but the plates are fine and fresh. Content clean with large margins. An excellent copy. Measures at 16.5 x 12 inches each volume. 95 full page engravings on India paper. Though the front cover lists 98 engravings we believe it to be error and the book stands complete.RIBA catalog matches with 95 plates. With original poetry by Sir Walter Scott. Text page 183/84 of vol. 2 has a large corner torn away at bottom no affect to text else the book is excellent. A scarce copy. Walter Scotts work on the romanticised views of the historic buildings, ruins, and monuments in the English and Scottish borders.
