Vol I cxxvii, [1], 92 pp; Vol II [4], pp 93- 209, [1], [2] Plate Index, ci Index, [1], [11] General Index, [1]. 94 engraved plates plus 2 engraved title pages by Greig, as called for. Book Condition: Good. Full bottle green polished calf with four raised bands, gilt titles to spine; heavy gilt foliate border to boards surrounding blind border, gilt decoration to compartments; gilt dentelles, aeg. Mottled brown endpapers. Wear to corners and spine tips; Vol I split approx 1/2-an-inch to spine next to lower joint. Scattered foxing, mainly to margins and prelims and frontis & title page Vol I. Small damp-stain to lower corner prelims and up to p 101 Vol II, and worm damage up to p 128 (minor, and very slight from p 93 onwards). Armorial bookplate of George Cunningham to each pastedown. No annotation or inscriptions. Classic account of the history of the Borders told through descriptions of its remaining architectural landmarks, including castles, monasteries and ancient churches.
