About This Item

Pinner, Middlesex: Private Libraries Association, 1973. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. Limited to 350 copies with frontispiece bookplate tipped in, from a total print run of 1,000. The British artist Reginald John "Rex" Whistler (1905-44) played an important role in the renaissance of bookplate design, and was equally successful in plates of simple dignity as he was in highly finished and elaborate designs on a very small scale. He was killed in action in Normandy during World War II. Octavo: 39 p. with the frontispiece and 41 plates. Original blue cloth binding, with black and gilt titles. A fine copy in the acetate dust wrapper, housed in the publisher's slipcase.
