Bound in publisher's original brown cloth densely decorated overall in gilt with round photo on upper cover, a.e.g. This copy rebacked with about 2/3 of the original spine retained and laid down. "This 'New Edition' is the first to include photographs. While the preceding edition was illustrated with over 300 wood engravings, the 1867 edition is illustrated with 15 albumen photographs attributed to Francis Frith and 140 other illustrations."
