About This Item
New York, NY Stein & Day Publishers, 1971. Hardcover First Ed, so stated. First Ed, so stated. Very Good+ in Very Good DJ: Book shows indications of very careful use: just a touch of wear to extremities; former owner's address label at the top of the pastedown endpaper; binding shows slight lean, but remains perfectly secure; text clean. DJ shows moderate wear to extremities, and shows scant loss due to rubbing and a small chip at the top of the front hinge; mild rubbing overall; price has not been clipped (its at the lower corner of the inside front flap), but the upper corner of same has been clipped (perhaps a pre-publication advance price has been removed). Shows some wear, but remains a clean, sturdy, presentable copy in a lightly worn DJ. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 4to. 224pp. Profusely illustrated in Color and Black & White. Hardback with DJ. An excellent historical overview of gold in culture, jewelry and society. Readable and informative, covering the sources for gold, refining and crafting techniques ancient and modern, as well as the final uses in jewelry and money. Primarily Western orientation.
