London: Printed by Joseph Bentham, 1756. Hardcover. See description. DESCRIPTION: Full black leather binding with decorative gilt border and centrepiece. Five ridged spine with decorated panels Language: English. Book Condition: Poor: Very heavy wear to corners, edges and spine. Rubbed boards with heavy rubbing to spine. Partially cracked front spine edge and front endpaper with inner hinge remaining firm. Faded endpapers with bookplate of Thomas Frewen MD to front paste down. Lightly toned pages with a stain marks to margins of a few pages to the rear. Text block remains securely bound although some gatherings are slightly offset. DJ Condition: No DJ. Size: 18mo 16.5cm by 9.5cm. AUTHOR: Thomas Frewen, M D (1704-1791), was an English physician He practised as a surgeon and apothecary at Rye, Sussex, and afterwards as a physician at Lewes He became known as one of the first in England to adopt the practice of inoculation against smallpox In his essay on The Practice and Theory of Inoculation he narrates his experience in three hundred and fifty cases.
