London: Printed by G. E. Eyre and W. Spottiswoode, 1850. 32mo, ff. [512]. Contemporary dark red velvet, brass edges and clasp to boards, brass shield engraved ‘Church Service’ to front board, edges gilt, housed in original dark red roan drop-front box with brass clasp, the box lined with textured silk. Velvet just the faintest touch rubbed at spine ends, the case extremities rubbed and its lining worn and separating. Bookseller’s ticket of J.R. Pearce, London, to flyleaf. Almost perfectly preserved by its case, this is a luxurious and beautiful small-format compilation of church service texts.

Established in 1957, McNaughtan's Bookshop is the oldest surviving secondhand and antiquarian bookshop in Scotland. Located in the basement of a listed 1820s tenement building at the top of Edinburgh's Leith Walk, we are the only open shop in Edinburgh holding membership of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association.
