About This Item

Edinburgh and London: William Blackwood & Sons, 1845. Apparent first. Near Fine. Crowquill Leeck & Doyle. A near fine copy of the apparent first edition of this volume of ballads Finely bound in full leather with gilt titles and floral design on spine with raised bands and gilt borders on both covers Marbled endpapers and gilt on page ends all around Frontis illustration and ornate red, black and gilt title page Minor foxing, limited almost entirely to endpapers The text from frontis to the end is remarkably clean for its age
No publication date, but it is doubtful anyone would have had such an attractive custom full leather binding done for anything but a first edition The original red and gilt card front cover and spine have been carefully preserved as extra pages in the rear of the volume (see photos)
Overall a very attractive volume
