Signed: Farrar, Straus And Young. Very Good+. 1953. First Edition; Stated First Printing. Hardcover. Hardcover, no dust jacket. Presentation copy. Russet boards, clean and bright, with shelf wear to edges, heavier at spine ends. Name stamp of former owner on front free endpage (not the Richard referred to below) . Black and white decorative title on spine. Laid in is an undated typed postcard from Brossard to an unspecified Richard: After an opening sentence referring to the jolly time he and his wife had with Richard the night before, Brossard says, "Here's another novel of mine. I think you might enjoy it. In it, I tried to work on several levels of language and sensibility at the same time. " A final paragraph refers to a script of Richard's Brossard was interested in reading, and ends "Go with God, " and is signed, in ink, Chandler. Brossard's novel is set in Washington, D. C. In the late 1930s and 1940s, and centers on the Brown brothers who, along with their mother, must cope with the ravages, and absence, of their violent, alcoholic father. Free of any markings, not ex-library. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 303 pages; Signed by Author .
