About This Item
New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1954. Hardcover. 8vo. Blue cloth, dust jacket. xvii, 367pp, xiv. Illustrations, map. Very good/very good. Mild jacket edgewear. First edition, from the collection of noted Civil War collector Carl Davis -- ex-library, the only marking being the "Lincoln Memorial University Library Dr. Carl B. Davis Collection" bookplate on the front pastedown; evidently acquired by noted Lincoln specialist Ralph G. Newman, founder of Chicago's famed Abraham Lincoln Bookshop, bearing his personal bookplate on the front flyleaf; title page and verso copyright page also bear other Newman bookplates. An interesting copy. NEVINS II, 135.
