About This Item
Garden City, New York, U.S.A.: Garden City Publishing Co./Doubleday, 1930. First Thus . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Kirmse, Marguerite. One of the most thrilling tales in all the annals of dog stories,'' about the puppy, Bob, Son of Battle, a Gray Dog of Kenmuir in competition for the coveted Shepherd's Trophy. One of a lovely collection of classic children's books issued in the early-mid-20th century by Garden City Publishing Co. in NY, which primarily published reprints of books orig. issued by its parent company, Doubleday. All the books were cloth-bound hardcover books with a colored paper pastedown to the front board, each illustrated by a famous artist of the day, here, Marguerite Kirmse (1885-1954), a celebrated British illustrator best known for her drawings of dogs. First published in 1898, this edition is from c. 1930s, in 306 pages with endpapers, frontispiece, + 4 full-page, full-color plates throughout text. With brown cloth covered boards & a colorful front pastedown edged & lettered in orange, this hardcover 8vo is in VG condition: very clean, binding strong & straight, hinges secure, pages creamy white & unmarked save for former owner's name & 1940 date inside the"This Is My Book" box inside front cover & his bookplate below.
