Inside, the text is bright and clean. Dust jacket is unclipped and Very Good, with minor crimping at head of spine. Now in mylar. This was California mystery writer Ross Macdonald's ( 1915-1983) 18th big hit in the Detective Lew Archer series. The New York Times calls these " the best detective novels ever written by an American." (blurb) A painting stolen from Santa Teresa leads our detective into the world of questionable art dealers and collectors, unearthing shady family secrets, and of course, in the direction of a mysterious woman. Synopsis
Ross Macdonald's real name was Kenneth Millar. Born near San Francisco in 1915 and raised in Ontario, Millar returned to the U.S. as a young man and published his first novel in 1944. He served as the president of the Mystery Writers of America and was awarded their Grand Master Award as well as the Mystery Writers of Great Britain's Gold Dagger Award. He died in 1983.
