Milwaukee: Ernst G. Timme, 1887. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. Quarto size, 570 pp., with the original presentation card from the author tipped in. The twenty-fourth volume of the Wisconsin Blue Book, with contents including the law of 1885, prescribing the number of officers and employees of both the senate and assembly, with their salaries and compensation; the chronological record brought down from 1848 to 1886; the list of the members of the legislature; election returns with a column of pluralities of each ward, city, town and county, including the population of 1880 and 1885; a revised description of the State University; an account of state societies; a list of the state central committees, county officers, city superintendents, principals of Free High Schools; principal of the public debt; value of foreign coins in U.S. currency; U.S. wars; illiteracy statistics; census of 1885, by wards, villages, cities, towns and counties and a table of "nativities of nationalities"; apportionment of congressional, senate and assembly districts; number and value of farms; miles of railroad; qualifications for voting; list of public libraries; a large number of statistical tables, and the state platforms of all the parties, never before published in the Blue Book. Illustrated with numerous lithographs and maps.

___DESCRIPTION: Original blue publisher's cloth, stamped in blind and gilt, frontispiece in color, two diagrams bound to the front, seventeen black-and-white lithograph plates, three maps bound terminally; quarto size (9" by 6.25"), pagination: [i-iii] iv-vi [vii-viii] [1-3] 4-562, with the original presentation card tipped in from Ernst G. Timme, (author) Secretary of State on the front free endpaper.

___CONDITION: Good only, internally bright and complete, text block is tight, ink signature to the first paste-down (with a correction made on a broader hand); extremities are soiled and there is substantial edgewear; overall a good copy.
