Containing "camp yarns collected at one of the great national Army cantonments by an amateur war correspondent." specifically, sketches of everyday life among soldiers of the National Army at Camp Upton, New York. Orig. published in 1917 in the "New York Sun" newspaper, for which the author was a correspondent during World War I, this is the FIRST EDITION in book form from 1918, Foreword by Colonel Theodore Roosevelt (after he was the 26th U.S. President); Introduction by Brigadier-General Evan M. Johnson, & illustrations by Captain J. S. S. Richardson, U.S.R. In 372 pages with pen-and-ink illustrations throughout text. Small (octavo) hardcover with black cloth-covered boards & gilt design/lettering to front & spine is graded only Fair due to these flaws: both front & rear hinges cracked, child's writing in pen inside both front & back cover, else unmarked.
