Containing five short stories explore the rural southland in which the author picked cotton and pecan as a boy, with themes of the violation of the Old for the New; the search for a father; and the search for manliness. Written by Ernest J. Gaines, American author who grew among the fifth generation of his sharecropper family, born on a plantation in Pointe Coupee Parish, Louisiana. Many of his later works deal with that same setting and premise, such as the present. Complete with unclipped dust wrapper. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally excellent with minor shelf wear only, minor bumping to head and tail of spine and extremities.
