New York: Oxford University Press, 1954. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good +/Very good. The bloody struggle for Kansas between the anti- and pro-slavery factions. SIGNED by author on the front free endpaper "Signed in my favorite town, my hometown, Liberal, Kansas -- Alice Nichols". Also a previous owner inscription dated 1954 on the front pastedown. Green cloth on boards with a little rubbing at corners and creases at top of spine. Bright yellow dust jacket, with price intact, has a couple of tiny chips at top of spine and a little dustiness on spine..
