About This Item

Bradbury & Evans. London. 1853. Bradbury & Evans. 1853. First edition. Handsomely bound in two volumes. Half green calf, spines decorated in gilt extra. Marbled boards, edges and endpapers. Two volumes: vol. I, xvi, [1]-320; vol. II, 321-624. 40 engraved plates in total including the frontis. and engr. title. Particularly wonderful are the dark plates, mostly in vol. II. First edition points as called for: page 19, line 6 "elgble", page 209, line 23 "chair" instead of hair, page 275, line 22, "counsinship" instead of cousinship, page 529, line 32 "picter" instead of picture. Boards slightly rubbed, prelims foxed, frontis and title page have half circle stains, some plates have foxing to margins but generally a very clean and fresh set.
