First edition of this novel, concerning a future sea warfare. The first of Jane's four scientific romances, it can also be considered a precursor of the genre of British speculative future war novels. Fred T Jane was the founding editor of reference books on warships and aircraft All the World's Fighting Ships and All the World's Airships. Complete with half title and two leaves of publisher's catalogue to rear. Illustrated with a frontispiece and fifteen further plates in black and white as well as further illustrations in text by the author. Collated, complete. In the original publisher's full cloth binding. Externally very smart with minor shelf wear, bumped to head and tail of spine and extremities. Dr Douty and Belvedere Newspaper Club's stamps to endpapers, half title, preface. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally very clean throughout. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
