Covers the years, after 1860, of the great Bonanza strikes and of the men and the evolution of the machinery they used: the double-jack, hand steel, Bickford fuse, wire rope, steam engine, etc. The major strikes included Henry Wickenburg's Vulture Mine in Arizona Territory; the hard-rock gold strike in the desert Southwest; Ed Schieffelin's discovery of vast silver deposits in Tombstone, Arizona; The Tonopah-Goldfield strike in Nevada, etc..

The Argonaut Book Shop was founded in 1941 in the middle of the financial district of San Francisco. The Argonaut was a founding member of the Antiquarian Booksellers\' Association of America and has been a member in good standing ever since. The Shop is now located just three blocks from Union Square in downtown San Francisco and is open six days a week. Parking facilities include ample street space and a parking garage close by.
