About This Item

Harmondsworth, England: Pelican Penguin. Good. 1970. 1st Penguin Edition. Soft Cover. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" Tall Duodecimo 0140211896 Paperback Paperback. prev owners name insideThe Black Death. Foxing to end inside covers and edge. Slight shelf wear to spine. At the most cautious estimate the Black Death killed one third of Europe's inhabitants between 1347 and 1350. The plague and its immedicate successors, by making land plentiful, labour scarce, and many prices high, accelerated the distintegration of the manorial system and sowed discontents which culminated in the Peasants' Revolt. The author follows the devastating course of the pestilence as it swept out of Asia into Itay, France, and Germany (accompanied by such phenomena as the Flagellants and massacres of Jews) and finally appeared in England in 1348. His account closely documents a human disaster without parallel. 331 pp. (We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions, Reference books ,and all types of Academic Literature.) .
