First thus edition ( ca 1934 ) of the fourth novel in the Charlie Chan series. There is a list of books published by Madison Square Books on the rear cover. One of the titles is Van Wyck Mason's The Shanghai Bund Murders which was originally published in 1933. Light chipping to the front edge leading to the inside summary panel. There is a inch semi closed tear at the head of the spine and some shallow paper loss to the head of the spine. Earlier owner's name and date on the first glued end page. In near fine / very good condition.
Synopsis
This book is a murder mystery set in Honolulu. Shelah Fane, the Hollywood star, has come to Hawaii to finish the filming of her latest movie. When she is stabbed to death in her beach house, Charlie Chan is called in to investigate. His movie-struck children are thrilled. Other characters include Shelah's wealthy suitor, her young protegee, a Hollywood fortune-teller, a young man from the Tourist Bureau, a beachcomber and an assortment of actors.
