About This Item
The Black Box was a serial film, co-written by E. Phillips Oppenheim, an early 20th century author famous for his stories of adventure, intrigue, and mystery, and released in 1915. This book was a tie-in with the film, and includes a number of images from the film. The story tells of Sanford Quest, a renowned criminologist, who is trying to solve a mystery involving a series of strange messages left in a black box, which leads him to confront a master criminal.
This copy is in fair condition, and does not have a dust jacket. The cloth is quite faded on the spine, and worn in a variety of places, and there is some bumping to the corners. One of the pages with images from the film has become detached but is still present. The front hinge is cracked, and there is a lean, and some foxing to the endpapers. The internal pages show some age related discolouration, but the pages are all present and the text is legible. There is an inscription on the front fly leaf reading, "To Ida From Harry Birthday Present Oct. 16 1915."
