Hardcover in original gray cloth boards with beveled fore-edge and gilt to front (still bright) and spine (just barely visible). First printing. Book is solidly bound with general overall wear especially at top and bottom of spine. Text pages are clean with occasional light stains. Frontis drawing of Bierce. Patterned endpapers. Bookstore sticker in lower corner of front endpage, from C. Beach on Montgomery Street in San Francisco. From the library of writer James Alden Thompson and Margaret Carrigan Thompson, with their names on front pastedown dated January 1921. Also again on front endpage, Joseph Thompson and dated 1917 and also again James A. Thompson, Mill Valley, California, and in 1921 by James A. Thompson II. 8vo. 280 pp.
