About This Item

New York: Rowman and Littlefield, 1961-1962. First edition.. A bright and clean copy in near fine condition.. Pp. 182; 875 full page color plates. Black one-quarter leather over red cloth-covered boards, lettered in gilt on the spine, dark green endpapers, oblong folio (16.5 x 12.5 inches). Most of the large color plates are signed in the plate, numbered, and dated when the plate was first painted by Brasher in the 1930s. At back of Volume 4 is an informative biographical sketch of Rex Brasher and historical facts about his efforts to have his monumental work of natural art published in the 1932. The first issue of the work was only 100 copies with every plate hand-colored by Brasher. It has become very scarce and costly. The birds illustrated in this work are mostly from the Chicadee valley near Kent, Connecticut. This is a large and heavy set. It weighs over 32 pounds. Postage will be extra. No ownership marks.
