About This Item
London: Martin Secker, 1923. First U.K. Edition, First Printing. Very good/poor. Octavo (23x14.5cm) : pp. (6) 7-207 (1, blank) : untrimmed leaves : plain e.p.s : t.e. dyed (black) : quarter cloth over yellow papered boards : paper label to spine : most of the scarce jacket present in two pieces.
The dust jacket is sunned and falling apart with some light paper tape repairs to verso; the paper label on the spine has a chip from the top right corner; there is a patch of sunning to the tail of the spine; the yellow boards are lightly marked and their edges toned. "English writer D.H. Lawrence's (1885-1930) prolific and diverse output included novels, short stories, poems, plays, essays, travel books, paintings, translations, and literary criticism. His collected works represent an extended reflection upon the dehumanizing effects of modernity and industrialization. In them, Lawrence confronts issues relating to emotional health and vitality, spontaneity, human sexuality and instinct. After a brief foray into formal poetics in his early years, his later poems embrace organic attempts to capture emotion through free verse." (Poetry Foundation online)
Preceded by the U.S. edition, the UK edition was limited to 1000 copies. [Roberts A27b.].
