BINDING/CONDITION: pictorial boards; reinforced binding; this is badly bumped at the top spine, otherwise a Very Good book, with a Very Good+ dust jacket; publisher's price on the jacket flap is intact.. about 11.5 inches tall by 6.25 wide . Description: This copy is Signed by the author, along with an enigmatic printed quote ''Only connect''. The diary of a ten-year-old girl who moves with her family in 1855 from a town on the Maine coast to rugged Turtle Island where her father is to be the lighthouse keeper. Very nicely illustrated in color by Kimberly Bulcken Root, who also illustrated the front and rear panels of the jacket. In an historical note at the end, the author explains that while Birdie is a fictional character, her story is based on the experiences of real life lighthouse heroines.
