David Cox (1783-1859) was an English landscape painter and early precursor of Impressionism. His watercolour works were his most popular, and he is still widely seen as being one of the greatest English landscape painters. His works include 'Rhyl Sands', 'A Train on a Viaduct', 'Boys Fishing' and 'Bolton Abbey'.In the publisher's original cloth binding.The half title page and frontispiece portrait of the subject are loose, but present.A first edition of this biography, written by William Hall. In the publisher's original full cloth binding. Externally a trifle worn, with loss to the cloth at the head and tail of the spine. Ownership bookplate to the front pastedown.
