About This Item
London: Hodder & Stoughton, 1948. First edition, first printing. Published by Hodder & Stoughton in London, 1948. This is a very good (or better) copy. The dust wrapper, designed by Leslie Stead as stated on the spine, has some wear. There are closed tears at the top and tail of the spine, and the right-hand corner of the front panel. The corners are slightly bumped. There are slight handling marks to the rear panel. It has not been price clipped and shows the original '6-/ net' price. The boards are markedly clean with green details, though the corners are slightly bumped. The text blocks are bright, but foxed at the side edge. This copy is free from previous owners ink and is, overall, in very good (or better) condition. The case of the pirate U-boat! Air Commodore Raymond has a thrilling new case for Biggles, Ginger, Algy and Bertie, now the Scotland Yard Air Squad.Instead of surrendering at the end of the war, commander Von Schonbeck of submarine U-517 escaped to the south Indian ocean.
