About This Item
John Hamilton, 1936. Early printing Autumn 1936 catalogue at rear [first printing 1934]. Colour frontispiece + four b&w full page illustrations. Blue boards with gilt titles (same as the first printing) & sundial device to spine (not the later black lettering). A very good+ copy. Some light edgewear with no chipping, nicking or splitting to cloth. No marks to boards with mild toning to spine. Internally complete with spotting to prelims. No inscriptions. Endpapers original and unsplit. An early copy of this elusive title under the original John Hamilton imprint with the original gilt titles. The third Biggles title. Biggles is now a flight commander at the Marinique aerodrome from where he and his fellow pilots cross over to wreak destruction on the German-held territory nearby. This is a set of connected stories, not a single novel with each having its own focal point. We are also introduced to a new harebrained pilot called "The Professor") who thinks air battles are all about mathematics!
