(Subject: Aviation - General) The most senior RAF officer to lose his life in World War II, Leigh-Mallory commanded one of the principal RAF Battle of Britain Groups. He developed the "Big Wing" tactic and later commanded Fighter Command as well as the air operations for the Normandy invasion.
