About This Item

London, England: Seeley, Service & Co. Ltd., 1932. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Near Fine/No Jacket. In a series of books dedicated to His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales (who would become King Edward VIII), this volume is a comprehensive summary, with contributions by various hunters, of big game hunting across different regions of Africa, arranged by geographical section. Preliminary chapters cover equipment, safety, skinning, dangerous prey, & medical information. Written for the British elite in an era which glorified the killing of defenseless animals in the service of man's ego, it offered this codicil: "Kill fairly & sparingly" not for any humane reason, but "that the Big Game of the world may survive to give sport to those who come after." We find it hard to find anything redeeming here, but if it's your cup of tea, this is a FIRST EDITION from 1932, in 445 pages with map endpapers + 150 black-and-white photographs throughout the text. Hardcover octavo in tan publisher's cloth stamped with a gilt crown & "L" insignia to front & spine, title in gilt to spine. Condition is Near Fine: very clean, sewn binding strong & straight, stitching secure, pages very light tanned but completely unmarked. Mild rubbing to extremities, lightly bumped corners. A few pages (317-327) have a slight dent to fore edge side near bottom. No DJ, likely as issued. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same Day Shipping on all orders received by 2 pm Weekdays (Pacific time); later orders, Weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
