Libraries of the Claremont Colleges, Claremont, first edition, 1980. Limited edition of 500 copies. Cloth, gilt cover device, tall 8vo, 28 cm,. xx, 219 pp, 30 ills. 912 entries. An attractively produced catalogue, designed and printed at the Arion Press, of the personal library of about nine hundred volumes on the history of sciences collected by President Herbert Clark Hoover and his wife. Hoover had travelled the world in the early 1900s as a consulting mining engineer, building up a fine collection of rare books, especially pre-1800 titles in the fields of mining, mathematics, astronomy and alchemy, natural history, and geology. Entries include title-page transcriptions, bibliographical descriptions and sometimes provenance notes or general annotations. Top edge slightly dust-stained, otherwise Near Fine in slightly chipped dustwrapper.
