About This Item

Rome: Typis Scarae Congregationis de Propaganda Fide, 1719. Three large volumes, bound in vellum (with some dust-soiling on covers), Discreet library stamps of a Dublin religious institution partially faded so I cannot make it out, folded frontispiece illustration in volume 1. There is some dustiness and some occasional foxing, throughout, apparently from the volumes being too loosely stacked on the library shelf. The text is otherwise clean and sound, with no markings I would guess that they were rarely, if ever, consulted.Volume 1 is titled De Scriptoribus Syris Orthodoxis, with preface and other introductory material not paginated, then 648 pages in Latin and Syriac text, and an errata leaf. Volume 2, De Scriptorinus Syris Monophysitis, is dated 1721, has a lengthy introduction (unpaginated) on the Monophysites, and 546 paginated pages on the documents, plus 2-page errata slip. Volume 3, dated 1725, it titled Tomus Tertii Pars Prima, De Scriptoribus Syris Nestorianus, has unpaginated introductory material, then 709 pages in Latin, Syriac and Arabic scripts. The fourth volume, completing the Nestorian section, which was published in 1728, is lacking.. First Edition. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Folio.
