About This Item
New York, NY Basic Books, 1984. Hardcover First Ed; First Printing indicated. First Ed; First Printing indicated. Very Good in Fair DJ: Book shows indications of light use; light wear to extremities; boards ever-so-slightly bowed; faintest soiling at the outside edges. Binding remains quite secure; text clean. DJ shows heavy use: fairly heavy wear to extremities; minor chip loss; several short closed tears; unprice clipped; mylar-protected. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. 8vo. 230pp. Translated by Yehuda Hanegbi and Yehudit Keshet. Hardback with DJ. In these short portraits of Biblical characters Rabbi Steinsaltz reveals essential meanings. In this work his account of the Biblical patriarch Isaac ( Yitzhak) made an especially strong impression upon me. Rabbi Steinsaltz shows how this particular patriarch is dominated by a sense of severe restriction and limitation connected with the experience of the Akedah. This work will provide the reader of the Bible new insight into some of its major characters.
