Plymouth VT.: Farm and Wilderness Foundation., 1989. First edition.. Trade paperback. Fine.. F&W Archival B&W photos.. 1 95 p. Paper covers w/ wraparound B&W graphic from event photo. 8.5x11 in. RARE: Educators, the Webbs founded residential summer camps on Woodard Reservoir in Plymouth VT, adding others on Lake Ninevah in Mount Holly. Their programs followed Quaker principles, and practiced organic farming, rural skill building, community service, conservation, swimming, canoeing, hiking, folk music and dance, arts, simple cooperative living. The boys' camp Timberlake was first, then Indian Brook for girls, and Tamarack Farm coed work camp for teens, Flying Cloud embraced Native Nations values and traditions, and Salt Ash Mountain drew younger teen coeds exploring hiking and canoeing regional trips. Campers have been diverse geographically, racially, economically. Staff members have been educators, graduate students, and former campers. Over 8 weeks, campers often went home with expanded ideals, new friends and mentors, greater self-confidence, and returned for more. Marking 50 years since their founding, the Webb-directed summer camps became a not for profit Foundation, continuing to impact maturing lives. This compilation of text and images provides both history and direction.
